Direct answers about paymatrix.

These answers explain what paymatrix does, how its calculations work, and the boundary between expense tracking and actual money movement.

What is paymatrix?

paymatrix is a shared-expense tracking app for trips, flatmates, friends, and everyday groups. It records who paid, calculates each person's share, and shows the remaining balances.

Does paymatrix transfer or hold money?

No. paymatrix maintains the group ledger and can generate a UPI QR code for a direct peer-to-peer payment. It does not hold, process, or independently verify the transfer. The group records a settlement after payment is confirmed.

How does paymatrix avoid rounding errors?

All calculations use integer paise rather than floating-point rupee values. When a split leaves remainder paise, paymatrix distributes them deterministically so the final shares always add up exactly to the original expense.

Can more than one person pay for the same expense?

Yes. A single expense can contain multiple payers, and each payer can contribute a different amount. The expense can then be divided equally, by exact amounts, or by another supported split method.

Who is paymatrix designed for?

paymatrix is designed for groups that share costs, including friends travelling together, flatmates managing household expenses, and people coordinating meals, events, or recurring plans.
